Interior architecture in Ankara means designing and carrying out the inside of a building from plan to handover: the room layout, plumbing and wet-area decisions, materials, furniture and lighting meet on the same drawing. Decoration is only the last part of that plan.

On this page you will find what an interior architect in Ankara does, how long the work takes, which districts we have worked in, and how to choose an interior architecture firm.

What does an interior architect in Ankara do?

An interior architect in Ankara draws the plan, prepares the working drawings, manages the work on site and, when needed, takes on the making of custom furniture. The service is not a single piece; every stage from design to handover rests on the one before, and skipping one makes the next one longer.

Umut GÜRLER Interior Architecture runs the work under four headings:

  • Design Services: concept, room layout, and decisions on materials and lighting.
  • Projecting Services: the working drawings and material lists the site will read.
  • General Contracting: finishing works run with a single point of contact from site setup to the cleaning before handover, in a turnkey interior architecture arrangement.
  • Custom Woodworks: kitchens, cabinets and custom furniture prepared for production together with the drawing.

We explained in detail that interior architecture and decoration are not the same thing in What Is the Difference Between Interior Architecture and Decoration?. The handover load of an arrangement where the drawing and the execution sit in different hands is gathered in How Do an Interior Architect and a Contractor Divide the Work?.

When the same team draws and carries out the work, the point of contact becomes one; a question about a measurement or a level on site is settled in the same place as the drawing. The cost is that comparing offers becomes harder and that the scope has to be written down.

How long does an interior architecture project take in Ankara?

Interior architecture work in Ankara takes months rather than weeks, and the length depends mainly on the type of space being finished. At this office a villa typically takes 6–8 months, an apartment 3–6, a residence office 1–2 and an office building 6–8. Site access, preparation, season and style stretch or shorten that.

Typical interior architecture durations by type of space (from survey to handover)
SpaceTypical durationWhat decides it
Villa6–8 monthsFloor area, whether the house is lived in, whether the complex allows weekend work
Apartment3–6 monthsArea, number of wet areas, whether the owner lives in the home
Residence office1–2 monthsThe management's working hours and lift rules
Office building6–8 monthsArea, scope of installations, when material decisions are made

A calendar month is not the same as a working day. If the complex management closes Saturday and Sunday, the week drops to five days; a 6–8 month job is spread over fewer working days. Working hours, lift use and rubble removal change from one management to another, so the survey starts by asking for the management's written rules. In some office residences work is permitted after office hours; in villa complexes this is rare.

The type of work also decides the permits: work that touches the structure, the staircase or the façade is major renovation and needs a separate application; paint, flooring and loose furniture usually stay on the minor side. An application to the management or the municipality is a separate door. We described the stages of a villa schedule and what stretches it in How long does a villa interior architecture project take?, and the difference for apartments in How Does Apartment Interior Design Differ in Natura, Ümitköy and Altınoran?.

In which districts of Ankara have we carried out interior architecture projects?

We have carried out residential interior architecture projects in several districts of Ankara, such as Çayyolu, Beysukent, Bilkent, Alacaatlı, İncek and Gölbaşı. The table below shows six of them with their location, area and year; a project name opens its photo page and a district name opens that district's page.

Six residential interior architecture projects we carried out in Ankara

Santra Villa - Serdar BeyÇayyolu700 m²2026

Bilkent Konut ProjesiBilkent1500 m²2025
Aykach HousesBallıkpınar, Gölbaşı250 m²2025
Mavi Ladin VillaBeysukent450 m²2025

These six jobs are not of the same scale: a 250 m² villa in Ballıkpınar and a 1500 m² residence in Bilkent call for different installation lines, a different number of wet areas and a different schedule. The district changes the work as well; every complex has its own rules on noise hours, lift use and rubble removal. We compared the complex rules and the difference in scale between Çayyolu, İncek and Gölbaşı in How to Choose a Villa Interior Architect in Çayyolu, İncek and Gölbaşı?.

Besides residences we have also done office and clinic work. You can find all districts and the projects we carried out in them on the Our Locations page, and all our work on the Projects page.

How do you choose an interior architecture firm in Ankara?

When choosing an interior architecture firm, look first at its licence, then at its completed projects, and last at who will run the work and how. Having the same team draw and carry out the work reduces the point of contact to one, but that is not the right model for every job.

  1. Licence and chamber registration: Ask the firm for its chamber registration and licence. A firm that states its details openly is easy to verify; ours are written in the footer of the site.
  2. Completed projects: Ask for real project pages that state the name, district, floor area and year. A gallery of images alone does not show how the work was run.
  3. Scope: Does the offer cover only design, only execution, or both? If the scope is not written down, the price is not settled either.
  4. Schedule and permits: A firm that asks about working hours, the complex rules and whether the site is free at the survey builds a realistic schedule.
  5. Handover: The delivery date and the price should be in writing before the work starts.

We gathered the general frame of these questions in What Should an Interior Architecture Firm Be Like?, and the model where drawing and execution sit in one hand in What Is Turnkey Interior Architecture?.

Umut GÜRLER is an interior architect and a graduate of Çankaya University Interior Architecture; he has worked since 2009 (more than 17 years) on villa, office and clinic interiors in Ankara, and his office is in Cepa Ofis Kule. The durations and district examples in this article come from the work the office has carried out in Ankara.

Frequently asked questions about interior architecture in Ankara

What does an interior architect in Ankara do?

Draws the plan of the space, prepares the working drawings, manages the work on site and, when needed, also takes on the making of custom furniture; the service runs from design to handover.

How long does interior architecture work take in Ankara?

At this office typically 6–8 months for a villa, 3–6 months for an apartment, 1–2 months for a residence office and 6–8 months for an office building; size, complex rules and the speed of decisions change the time.

Are interior architecture and decoration the same thing?

No. Interior architecture covers the plan, the installations, the wet areas and the execution; decoration is the furniture, accessory and colour decisions that come after the plan.

Does interior architecture work need a building permit?

Work that does not touch the structure, the staircase or the façade is often not subject to a permit; an application to the complex management or the municipality may still be needed. The scope is settled at the survey.

What do you gain by giving the drawing and the execution to the same firm?

The handover disappears and the point of contact becomes one; in return, comparing offers becomes harder and the scope has to be written down.
