Effects of Round Table Selection on Meeting Productivity

A meeting room is the closed office room where a decision, a briefing and shared work sit. Because it is used often, table shape, light and acoustics are written in the same survey. Care over every detail does not bring output by itself. Team dynamics are built by who sees whom; if participants’ preferences are ignored, the table stays decoration.

A meeting strategy and clear talk are not thought apart from seating geometry. The round top is this article’s subject; first the room size, distance from noise and the headcount are locked. Geometry comes after the agenda.

Scale First, Then a Productive Room

The room is measured to its use. Seating the whole company at one table is not the aim; that day’s upper limit is written. The location is reachable from the corridor and cut off from open-plan noise. A large-diameter table in a narrow room kills the walking strip.

Light is enough to read a face; not enough to wash the screen. An ergonomic, comfortable, plain chair carries a long sit. It is not ranked as “a stylish model brings advantage”. If table and chairs can move, a second layout is possible; otherwise the round top is locked to the room.

A Round Table Evens the Gaze

Table shape affects output directly; a comfortable chair is not enough on its own. A round table removes the head seat. Everyone can look at everyone; the right to speak is geometrically equal. That does not mean everyone will speak. A decision can speed up from equal sight; there is no time guarantee.

As Umut GÜRLER Interior Architecture - Ankara Interior Architecture we write diameter and headcount together at survey. As the diameter grows the centre empties and reach gets harder. A person with their back to the wall display does not see it; for a board with a presentation a rectangle is more readable. Exchange of ideas is easier in this geometry; a claim of warmth is separate. The rectangular side sits in advantages and disadvantages of rectangular tables.
