The Effect of Open Office Design on Work Efficiency
One reason firms choose an open office is that it shortens the path inside the team. Work output is often named here; that does not mean an automatic rise on every plan. Interaction is the spine of the design. This article reads tempo, cost and light in the open plan — without a claim of proof.
Interaction and Tempo
The first open offices were set with standing panels. The aim was help and the short question. When walls come down and desks sit close, talk rises; that produces tempo in some work and interruption in others.

Light, Area and Today’s Plan
Much of a working day is spent at the desk. An open plan can lower floor area and partition cost; without a social niche and a quiet room that economy is short. Furniture, colour and accessories matter here as in other offices. The real difference is that daylight reaches the whole line and does not hit the screen.
