Open office designs that aim to encourage collaboration and communication have become increasingly popular in the modern era. However, the effects of open office design on company culture brought to the fore the issue of corporate identity and the factors affecting the workplace atmosphere. So what is the subtle impact of open office designs on company culture? What are its positive aspects and potential challenges?

Strengthening Company Culture

Open offices are generally about breaking down physical barriers and employees. This design is highly preferred and defended by companies due to its potential to improve collaboration. It is expected to increase spontaneous interactions, idea sharing and teamwork. It is also aimed to develop a sense of unity among team members. The collaborative nature of open spaces, emphasizing teamwork and innovation, aligns with the principles of many companies. For these reasons, open office designs provide an environment that supports the collaborative layout of the company. And thus, it can contribute positively to a company's corporate culture.

During the interior design process of the law office we created for Attorney Başak, we adopted an approach that highlights the spirit of the space and its professional identity. While bringing a neoclassical depth to the interior with decorative wainscoting details in a serene gray color palette applied to the wall surfaces, we perfectly balanced this traditional stance with hidden light coves, pendant lighting, and minimalist furniture choices. While the geometric patterned parquet flooring applied in circulation areas and floors adds a warm atmosphere to the environment, we brought the most ideal professional office design concept to life for the law firm through dark wood textures and leather upholstery details positioned on the executive desks.

Impact on Corporate Identity

The advantages of open office designs are many for companies. However, maintaining a harmonious corporate identity is among the challenges of this job. Increased noise levels and lack of privacy can lead to distraction. This can potentially hinder focused work.

This challenge in open office designs reveals the need for new spaces to balance the need for collaboration and individual concentration. For example, areas such as designated quiet zones or flexible work areas are some of these. Successfully overcoming these challenges ensures that open office design maintains its unique corporate identity. It also ensures that the company is compatible with and strengthens its core values.

Companies need to establish a delicate balance in the complex structure between open office designs and company culture. Companies can leverage the collaborative benefits of open spaces while addressing the challenges of open office designs. However, they can shape a workplace atmosphere that is compatible with their values. The effects of open office design on company culture may not suit everyone. Open office designs should preserve the company's distinct identity and principles. It should also create an environment that fosters cooperation.
