Design of Multi-Purpose Meeting Rooms: Flexibility and Solutions Suitable for Needs

A multi-purpose meeting room is written so a board session, a workshop and a short training can sit in the same four walls in turn. Flexibility is not moving a wall; it is a table that folds, chairs that nest and a display that still faces the new seating. Function follows that day’s agenda. One fixed U-shape does not solve three kinds of work at once.

The room works if the changeover stays short. A layout that cannot be set in ten minutes stays multi-purpose only on paper. Choosing furniture without writing sockets, a cable trough and storage is not enough. As Umut GÜRLER Interior Architecture - Ankara Interior Architecture we lock at survey how many people and how many minutes each task takes; then the room layout.

Solutions Written to the Work

Need is not stuffed as “a socket everywhere”. The laptop sits on the table; the speaker and camera stay on a fixed point in the room. The display is hung at a height that serves both a U-shape and a row facing the wall. Wireless sharing lifts the cable; a spare HDMI still lives under the table.

Light is not one ceiling ring. At least two scenes are written: dim for a presentation, faces readable for debate, paper visible for training. Weak light spoils a meeting; glare spoils the screen. Without a cupboard for markers, spare chairs and a folding side table, the room cannot move to the second job.

Output Is Measured in Changeover Time

Long hours are spent in a meeting room. Care is not decorating every detail; it is a back, a knee gap and air that can carry three hours. Output does not arrive because the furniture looks modern. If the chair slides, the table shakes or the display falls into a blind spot in the new layout, the room slows the work.

Comfort is not a source on its own; changeover time and acoustics are read together. When the room moves from workshop to board, stacking chairs, sliding the table and switching the light scene have to be written. The technology side sits in another article: technology-led meeting rooms.
